08/06/2016 – Monthly flea and craft market

The Phillips Area Community Center (PACC) launches its third year of
First-Saturday- of-the- Month Flea and Craft Markets on May 7.
Vendors from all over the area set up tables in the old gym (PACC) to sell
everything from hand-knitted and hand-carved items to jewelry, books,
tools, toys, and kitchenware. “It’s a miscellaneous market,” says organizer
Pam Matthews. “The only theme it has is bargain shopping and buying
local.”
Started two years ago, the market quickly became a success, with more than
a dozen vendors showing up on an average weekend. The PACC sells snacks
and beverages, while across the way in the American Legion Hall, a weekly
Farmer’s Market (from Memorial Day weekend to the end of September)
features a wide range of produce and goods from local growers and bakers.
The Flea and Craft Market, located at the Community Center on Depot
Street in Phillips, runs from 10 to 2 every first Saturday of the month
through September. Vendor tables are $10, with tables and chairs provided.
Anyone who wishes to participate may call Pam Matthews at 639-2630.

2014 Walk to Bethlehem

For 37 years, the Rangeley Friends of the Arts have been   sponsoring the annual “Walk to Bethlehem” celebration to be held on Sunday, December 7th.  This festivity which recreates Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem will begin at the Rangeley Inn at 5:30 p.m. with the reading of Caesar Augustus’ decree that all people must return to the city of their birth.  The Walk through the town of Rangeley will be led by Mary and Joseph followed by many carolers.

”The Walk” combines some of the religious aspects of Christmas with a traditional family oriented Christmas program of carols, classical pieces and drama.  The program to be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street begins at 6 p.m., will likely instill feelings of peace, hope and love in all who attend.

Some of the participants will include the Rangeley Ringers, Lakeside Dance students, RLRS Chorus, the Rangeley Community Chorus and a few solo numbers.  The Pageant features many young people and residents in full costumes.  Refreshments will be enjoyed by all in the church undercroft after the program.
