CLOSED FOR BUSINESS AS OF OCTOBER 2020! NO LONGER OFFERING KAYAK TRIPS!
Mothership Kayak Excursions offers guided paddle trips on the Rangeley Lakes of Western Maine.
As avid kayak paddlers, Doreen and I have grown to appreciate the sheer beauty and tranquil nature of a flat water glide along the many islands, coves, streams and bogs of the Rangeley Lakes. While many areas are easily accessible to the average paddler, the challenge to safely reach deep into the truly remote locations of the Rangeley’s was a business opportunity that intrigued us. We’ve paddled the “easy spots” numerous times and wanted to broaden our experiences. Having now spent years cruising the “other” Rangeley Lakes (Mooselookmeguntic, Cupsuptic, Upper & Lower Richardson), we have located remote sites that are perfect for paddle excursions, yet we needed a large transport vessel outfitted to carry passengers and their equipment….enter the “Gray Ghost”!!
In the spring of 2012, we purchased a custom built 30’ tri-toon (3 pontoons) vessel. Complete with a roomy deck, hard top and aft swim deck, we found the perfect “Mothership” for the launching our business. Given our interest of the history of the region, we painted the vessel all gray and aptly named her the “Gray Ghost”, after the famous fly-fishing streamer pattern. We extensively refurbished the vessel, replaced the engine and added a custom onboard kayak storage rack. We are excited to introduce our Mothership Kayak Excursion business this summer. Our guided paddle trips will expose you to some of the most remote paddling areas in Maine. Please join us on a truly memorable guided paddling experience.
Also, given the unique opportunity of such a large, stable and trailerable vessel, we have developed unique non-paddling packages. Perfect for larger groups, please consider one of our Premier Packages that offer you the chance to visit historic sites (Upper Dam, Middle Dam, Lakewood Camps), remote beaches (Pine Island), and even enjoy the annual fireworks show!!
