Two beautiful vintage watercraft are featured in a brand new exhibit at OSHM. Come see a rare 1904 Carleton Canoe that was passed down and used by the Bonney Family of Long Lake right here in Rangeley for the past 111 years! This beautiful canoe has all its original gear allowing it to be sailed, rowed or paddled. The canoe was made in Bangor Maine by Carleton Canoe Co. that was purchased by Old Town in 1904. After the Civil War and with the start of the Industrial Revolution, came some leisure time. The popularity of hunting and fishing increased and Maine's gunsmiths who produced arms for necessities tuned to making sporting guns and improving or inventing fishing tackle. This exhibit has 19th century firearms and fishing tackle from Hiram Leonard, Farmington's own Charles Wheeler and others. Display at Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum in Oquossoc.

New “Historic Rapid River Region” Exhibit opens at The Outdoor Heritage Museum A new exhibit featuring some of the mystique and lure of this legendary part of the Rangeley Region. The display includes vintage film of the first ever U.S. Whitewater Championships held in 1940, a canvas kayak once owned by Herb Welch, mounts, the dam gate from Old Lower Dam, artifacts from the Forest Lodge the home of national best-selling author Louise Dickinson Rich, fish mounts and more.
