Just did this hike (July 2013). I have hiked 4,000 ft. mountains and I would not say this was an ‘easy’ hike. Looks like most people access the area by water since the trails were overgrown with grass, shrubs and branches encroaching the trail. Best to hike out by the skyline and drop down trails and back by the Timberland trail. Saw a lot of moose scat on the drop down and skyline trails. Most were old but there were a few more recent droppings. Never saw moose but did see a deer. The views from the shore are very nice.
Did this hike today July 9, 2014 and found it in poor condition. Many trees had fallen across the trail that required climbing over, under or around. The trail is overgrown, narrow and in need of maintenance. Signage was good and the terrain was interesting and varied. Views from the lake were nice. Agree with Robin that there was lots of moose scat and very buggy and muddy (it rained last night).
